Reporting Abuse

Reporting abuse or neglect can protect a child and even save a life. It also makes it possible for a family to get help.

While anyone who suspects child abuse and neglect can make the call to a national hotline or the resource in their area to report it, there are individuals who are required by law to do so. Mandated Reporters are individuals whose professional work puts them in contact with children – such as teachers, medical professionals and police officers – and are trained to recognize and report abuse. They are considered to be an integral part of the broader system intended to protect children.

Keep in mind, the sooner authorities know of a child in an abusive situation, the sooner they can help.

If you believe a child is in immediate danger from child abuse or neglect, call 911.
