Rape and sexual assault survivors face many decisions in the hours, days, months and years following the assault. Sexual assault service providers do not make decisions for survivors, but help them think about options and make choices. Rape and sexual assault occurs across all communities, regardless of race, gender, sexual preference, age, religion, cultural heritage, and social or economic status.
The Safe Center offers free individual and group counseling to all survivors of sexual assault. All genders are welcome. For information about individual and group counseling please call our hotline at 516-542-0404.
Types of Group Counseling Sessions Available:
Support Group for Survivors of Sexual Violence – All Genders Welcome – 18 and older – on-going group that offers support for survivors of sexual assault. In a safe environment, adult survivors will begin to process their trauma on a deeper level. The purpose of this group is to move survivors onto a more in-depth understanding of their feelings and behaviors. Through carefully selected exercises, survivors can continue on their journey of recovery by learning who they are, and begin to care for themselves again. Different types of relaxation and grounding techniques will be presented and demonstrated, and survivors will learn to incorporate these skills, as well as coping skills, on their own. Counselor-led. For more information please call our hotline at 516-542-0404.
Secondary Survivors Group – All Genders Welcome – 18 and older – on-going group that offers support for secondary survivors of victims of sexual violence. A secondary survivor is someone who loves and/or is related to someone that has suffered sexual assault. In a safe environment, adult secondary survivors will begin to process their own feelings as it pertains to their understanding of sexual assault. Secondary survivors will also learn the symptoms of sexual violence, and how to not only help and support their loved ones, but how to also help themselves with their own feelings of helplessness. Counselor-led. For more information please call our hotline at 516-542-0404.
