Administrative Assistant

Responsibilities
The Administrative Assistant will work closely with both the agency’s administrative and development departments and will be primarily responsible for data entry in support of client and donor databases. Responsibilities will also include managing the donor acknowledgement process, assisting with development communications, special events, and campaign mailings, preparing data reports, coverage of the reception area including greeting client families upon arrival on an as needed basis, and other projects as assigned by designated supervisory staff.

Qualifications

  • Proven track record with data entry, database management and maintenance
  • Knowledge of DonorPerfect or any similar database management system
  • Advanced capabilities with MS Word, Outlook and Excel preferred
  • Must be comfortable greeting clients, handling incoming agency phone calls and working with office equipment
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, be able to multi-task, and work in a fast paced team environment
  •  A flexible schedule, ability to work some evenings as needed, and a reliable form of transportation is required

Minimum 2 years experience with data entry and administrative support work preferred.  Excellent opportunity for recent college graduate with similar experience.  Bi-Lingual a plus but not required. This is a full-time 35 hour a week position with a salary of $27K annually plus benefits starting December 1, 2017.

Bilingual Court Advocate

The Legal Services Center is seeking a full time bilingual court advocate who is committed to The Safe Center’s mission and work. The court advocate provides advocacy at the Integrated Domestic Violence Court and other Nassau County Domestic Violence Courts.

Requirements include: knowledge women’s rights and violence against women (domestic violence, sexual assault, trafficking); an ability to write and speak persuasively; an ability to perform creative legal research and advocacy; a commitment to collaborative cross cultural work; and the ability to work well with people in diverse settings. The advocate is supervised by the Supervising Court Advocate.

Qualifications

  • An extensive understanding of domestic violence, stalking, sexual assault, crime victimization and resulting trauma, knowledge of victims’ rights and remedies, and cultural sensitivity and diversity is also required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to public interest law
  • Must have valid driver’s license and use of a vehicle
  • Must be English/Spanish bilingual, both written and verbal
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proficient computer skills, specifically in Abacus, Word and Excel
  • Applicants must have excellent public speaking skills, organizational, planning and time management skills, as well as the ability to work independently, cooperatively, and under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Communicating on an ongoing basis with court personnel, interpreters, court officers, assistant district attorneys, police officers, and attorneys for the children
  • Assist the director  with in-service trainings
  • Makes domestic violence presentations, especially to the local Spanish-speaking population
  • Legal research and advocacy

Bilingual Safe Home Advocate

Qualifications:Associates or bachelors degree with experience in case management, advocacy, domestic violence and mental illness preferred. Must speak and write Spanish fluently. Must maintain a valid, violation-free N.Y. State Drivers License and have a car.

Responsibilities:Under the supervision of the Safe Home Coordinator the advocate provides case management, advocacy, supportive services, transportation for the staff and clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide case management and advocacy services for adult and child clients at the Safe Home. Helping clients do as much as possible on their own. Provide case management in the absence of the Child Advocate.
  • Advocate for clients at Department of Social Services, court, police department, medical services, and housing. Provide accompaniment when needed.
  • Work with clients to identify goals. Provide support and resources to help them achieve these goals and monitor their progress.
  • Assist in identifying housing resources including apartment searches and other options for post shelter stay.
  • Provide weekly life skills groups and work with clients individually as needed on these skills.
  • Assist clients in learning how to use public transportation and helping them to figure out how to get to their appointments and other locations. Provide transportation when needed.
  • Accompany clients, along with police escort, to retrieve items from where client previously lived.
  • Safety planning with clients regarding travel, use of electronics and maintaining the confidentiality of the shelter.
  • Teach clients how to use electronics, phones and other technology safely.

Sex Abuse Case Coordinator

Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in social work or related field and 2 years experience in the area of sexual abuse, crisis intervention, victim advocacy, sex offender treatment or management, information and referral. Must understand best practices in multi-disciplinary teamwork with sex offending population and victims of sexual offenses. Must be familiar with criminal court and probation/parole supervision.

This position requires the use of a car and a flexible schedule. Local and overnight travel may be required. In addition he/she must be able to utilize the following equipment: computer, telephone, fax machine, typewriter, security system and postage machine.

The Sex Abuse Case Coordinator reports to the Director of Child Advocacy Center.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that sex offender management policies and practices are designed and implemented in ways that promote victim safety and recovery;
  • Ensure that decisions made by the supervision team consider the potential impact on victims;
  • Ensure that victims and other victim advocates understand the sex offender management process and their potential role in it;
  • Work as part of the supervision team and remain in contact with the victim, where appropriate;
  • Serve as a liaison between victims, other advocates and the rest of the supervision team;
  • Participate in the sex offender task force and in the policy and protocol development for Nassau County;
  • Provide appropriate referrals when necessary and work with victim advocates to ensure that victims are supported throughout the court and community management proces
  • Provide training and information to criminal justice system agencies and treatment providers on how to work more effectively with and for victims and create effective victim-centered policies;
  • Provide crisis intervention, support and information to victims on your caseload, assist them with accessing crime victim compensation, provide court, District Attorney and medical appointment accompaniment, assist with victim impact statements;
  • Orient clients to court process;
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor and Executive Director.

Substance Abuse Case Coordinator

Qualifications:
Masters degree in social work or related field and 3 years experience in the area of substance abuse and case coordination.

This position requires the use of a car and a flexible schedule. Local and overnight travel may be required. In addition he/she must be able to utilize the following equipment: computer, telephone, fax machine, typewriter, security system and postage machine.

The Substance Abuse Case Coordinator reports to the Director of the Child Advocacy Center.

Responsibilities:

  • Receive substance abuse cases from DSS;
  • Coordinate and track cases;
  • Ensure information sharing;
  • Facilitate multi-disciplinary team meetings;
  • Maintain agency statistics;
  • Provide consultation on cases to DSS staff and other professionals as appropriate;
  • Coordinate and provide training;
  • Facilitate/attend Task Force Committee meetings as assigned;
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor and Executive Director.

Per-Diem Project Kidz Talk Group Facilitator

Qualifications:

  • BSW, BA in psychology, or equivalent degree required. MSW or equivalent degree preferred.
  • Group work experience required.
  • Experience working with children and families required.

Job Description:
Project Kidz Talk is a peer support program for children who have been sexually abused and their non-offending family members.  Per-diem group facilitators facilitate a weekly peer support group for children impacted by sexual abuse.  They work with children of differing ages and developmental levels, carry out activities which enhance children’s ability to express feelings and lessen their sense of isolation, and maintain confidentiality for our clients.  Expectations include: a commitment to an 8-12 week group cycle, interaction with families during dinner time, and setting up and cleaning up after dinner.

The hours for this position are 5pm to 8:15pm on Mondays and/or Tuesdays.  (Program time might extend beyond these scheduled hours.)

*Length of employment is contingent upon the program’s needs.

The per-diem rate is $15.78 per hour.
