Director of Education

The Director of Education oversees the Education Department and reports directly to the Executive Director. The Education Department provides community and professional education programs on Long Island that focus on child abuse, domestic violence, rape and sexual assault, human trafficking and trauma. Additionally the department is responsible for developing social media posts that help educate and inform the community on the issues The Safe Center addresses, creates the agency digital newsletter, assists the Communications Coordinator with the development of brochures and other print material, manages the library, coordinates the agency volunteer program, provides technical assistance to professionals and organizations, facilitates speakers bureau, implements agencies internal staff/intern/volunteer training program, implements CEU (Continuing Education Unit Credits) trainings, responds to media requests etc.

Responsibilities
• Serve as information officer for media contacts including interviews, providing background and development of stories for the media and clients stories for funders
• Developing and implementing training programs and presentations related to the work of The Safe Center
• Training and supervision of department staff
• Development of brochures and training materials
• Oversight of information/media center
• Coordination of training for all internal staff, interns and volunteer
• Oversight of agency Volunteer program
• Oversight of the development of agency digital newsletter
• Maintaining statistical and program records
• Development and implementation of trainings at local and national conferences
• Writing grant proposals and funding reports as necessary
• Serve as information officer for media requests (TV, Radio and Print)

Requirements
• MSW or related degree
• Minimum of 5 years experience in the field of interpersonal violence, trauma, and program management
• Excellent written and presentation and training skills
• Experience working with the media
• Proficient with Microsoft Office including Power Point required
• Familiarity with Keynote a plus. Must be comfortable utilizing AV equipment and technology
• A flexible schedule that will require availability some evenings, weekends and holidays
• This position requires the use of a car which will be used for travel throughout various locations on Long Island and the New York Metropolitan area as well as occasional trips to other parts of the State. Overnight travel may be required.

Additional Information
Compensation package includes excellent benefits and generous paid time off policy. Salary range of $65,000 – $70,000.

Safe Home Bilingual Advocate

The Safe Home Advocate will work directly out of our confidentially located domestic violence shelter in Nassau County. The Safe Home Advocate provides case management, advocacy, supportive services, crisis intervention and transportation for both adult and child clients staying at the shelter.

Requirements and Qualifications
• Associates degree
• Professional experience and knowledge of domestic violence, mental illness and substance abuse
• Must speak and write Spanish fluently
• Must maintain a valid, violation-free NY State Drivers License and have a car
• Must be able to work some evenings
• Case management experience preferred
• Experience in group home setting preferred

Domestic Violence Counselor

Job Description
Our Domestic Violence Counseling Program provides trauma informed services to adult victims of domestic violence.  The Domestic Violence Counselor will work as a team member at both our main offices in Bethpage and at our Safe Home, the shelter for victims and their children. The counselor works closely with the shelter, hotline, legal, and children’s mental health units, and provides individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, casework, advocacy, and other services.

Qualifications
The position requires an MSW or equivalent, and NY State license or eligibility for limited permit.  Experience with trauma work, including a minimum of one year domestic violence and/or sexual assault is necessary. English/Spanish bilingual fluency and experience in a group home/ shelter setting are both strongly preferred.

Additional Information
The schedule includes day and evening hours. A car is required. LCSW supervision. Excellent benefits, including medical and dental insurance. Salary: $40,000

P/T Bilingual Child Counselor 

Fluency in Spanish & English required

Job Description: Our Children’s Mental Health Program provides trauma-informed services to children (ages 0-18) and families impacted by domestic violence, sexual abuse, and commercial sexual exploitation. The Bilingual Child Counselor provides mental health services to children and families at our office in Bethpage. These services include intake & assessment, individual, group, parent-child, & family therapy, crisis intervention, parenting support & guidance, advocacy, and case management. This is a part-time position (15 hours/week) and evenings are required. No weekends.

Qualifications and Skills
• MSW or equivalent degree required. Licensed or eligible for limited permit.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) required
• Clinical experience with children and families required
• Experience working with survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence strongly preferred
• Training in trauma treatment and play therapy strongly preferred.

Bilingual Child Victim Advocate

Responsibilities
The Bilingual Child Advocate provides crisis intervention, support, case management services, information and referrals to child victims and their non-offending family members. Assists clients in filing compensation claims, accompany child/family to court, police, child protective services and medical appointments, home visits, orient clients to the legal and court process and maintains statistical records and case notes.
Job Requirements
• Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology or related field
• 2 years experience in the areas of crisis intervention, information and referral and support
• Bilingual Spanish applicants preferred

Per-Diem Project Kidz Talk Group Facilitator

Job Requirements
• BSW, BA in psychology, or equivalent degree required. MSW or equivalent degree preferred.

Job Description:
Project Kidz Talk is a peer support program for children who have been sexually abused and their non-offending family members.  Per-diem group facilitators facilitate a weekly peer support group for children impacted by sexual abuse.  They work with children of differing ages and developmental levels, carry out activities which enhance children’s ability to express feelings and lessen their sense of isolation, and maintain confidentiality for our clients.  Expectations include: a commitment to an 8-12 week group cycle, interaction with families during dinner time, and setting up and cleaning up after dinner.

The hours for this position are 5pm to 8:15pm on Mondays and/or Tuesdays.  (Program time might extend beyond these scheduled hours.)

*Length of employment is contingent upon the program’s needs.

The per-diem rate is $15.78 per hour.
